Meet Jim
Roadless Races Director
I enjoy simple things like morning coffee time with my wife, playing baseball with my son, running and biking in the woods, and listening to loud music from the 80s – Van Halen, Motley Crue, Def Leopard, Ratt – you get the picture.
I was one of seven kids who grew up in a tight-knit military family. We moved every few years and the challenge of change was normal for us. New places, new people, and new experiences – I loved it.
In what seems like a former life, I played college soccer, worked as a cartographer for the US Govt, and led wilderness expeditions for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). In the mid 90’s, I took a year off to travel solo around the world. After that year abroad, I felt invincible. I wish everyone could have an epic life changing experience like I did.
I love seeing a plan come together and I get a thrill out of solving interesting problems. Creating and facilitating fun and enjoyment and the ‘hurts so good’ kind of pain – I get a kick out of that. Witnessing transformation, both physically and emotionally, is pretty darn rewarding to me. I enjoy mountain biking and trail running and pushing myself to the point where I start to question what I’m doing. I believe that competition is good, the healthy kind, not the cutthroat variety. And, as cliché as it may be, I want to make a difference and if I’m not, then I don’t really see the point.
